Taurus New Moon 2024: The Power of Slowing Down

Taurus New Moon– 2024

By Tracy Cook

Where should my focus be during this next 29-day cycle

When we draft a chart for the new moon, we get a sense of the energy that will be up for processing for the next 29 days.

Okay what is this cycle about?    Do you have the wherewithal to slow down?  What might you learn if you take things one at a time?

Taurus New Moon

18 Taurus 02

May 7, 2024

8:21pm PDT

We survived the Aries lunar month that launched with a total eclipse, ended with Pluto stationing retrograde and a whole lotta stuff in between.     Phew.

We are now at the first earth sign of the zodiac and after all that Aries fire we welcome the cool dirt of Taurus.   The bull was one of the earliest domesticated animals going back at least ten thousand years.  The heavenly bull was revered in Babylon, Greece, and Roman tales.  They were so revered it is common to find bulls painted on ancient pottery or depicted in bronze figurines.   In astrology Taurus is respected for providing stability.   Taurus knows how to dig in the dirt and build something from the ground up.   It is not airy fairy; it is not concerned with the philosophy of this or that.   It is very pragmatic.  In Taurus we are not too far out in the future, we are not too far in the past.   We are concerned about what is going on right now and through our pragmatic lens we drill down and take seriously, our possessions, our money, our pleasures, our joy, our beauty, our comfort, and our love.

We also slow down.  One of the greatest gifts of Taurus is the permission to take pause.   Life in the 21st century puts a premium on multi-tasking.   We seem to be doing two things at once at the bare minimum.  But now in the Taurus cycle we can get deep into doing ONE thing at a time.  The rush rush rush can slow slow slow down.   We should relish any quiet time and all relax-ness.   Be like a bull on the side of hill, rolling around in the clover and basking in the sunshine.    That bull is our visual for 29-days.   Being the bull is especially potent because things are going to speed up soon when Jupiter moves into Gemini late in the cycle.   When we slow down during these twenty-nine days and say yes to good things, we may find these experiences sustain us when the world speeds up.    Also, when we slow down we can see where we need to apply more resources to uptick any need for feeling more secure.   If things are wobbly, we can take this twenty-nine days to make them stronger.  Bit by bit and one at a time.

During this cycle we may be asking Taurus questions such as:

How is my bank account?   What’s going on with my stream of revenue?   How are my possessions?  Do I have enough?   Do I need to update anything tired?   What’s going on with my appearance?  Do I need a freshened look?   What is going on with my real estate?  How do I find pleasure?  Where is my love?

The chart for the new moon has Venus, Uranus, and Jupiter in Taurus along with the Sun and Moon right in the middle degrees.   The Moon is exalted in Taurus and on a new moon is a great partner with the sun since they can both tap the power of Taurus.  While Venus and Jupiter are on the weak side of a conjunction, they still bring a whole lot of Taurus to the chart as well.

The sun and moon are in sextile with Saturn and conjunct Uranus.    This is an uplifted positive chart.  There will be a lot of support for us to find new structures that will help with any practical changes that we feel we need.  If something has been feeling wobbly, we may get the exact thing to make it secure during this 29-day cycle.   Given Uranus is in the mix it could come from out of the blue.     This lunar cycle may have us saying yes to something that is out of the blue.  At first blush we might think, “Huh, why am I saying yes?”  but if it leans into pleasure, joy, food, money, beauty, it could provide a reward in some manner.

Pluto Stuff

May 17: Mercury square Pluto 2 Aquarius 03

May 22: Sun trine Pluto 2 Aquarius 01

May 25: Venus trine Pluto 1 Aquarius 59

June 2: Jupiter trine Pluto 1 Aquarius 53

June 3: Mercury trine Pluto 1 Aquarius 52

Since Pluto entered Aquarius in January, we are starting to get an itty-bitty view of this new twenty-year cycle.   We’ll get a feeling for this journey when we pay attention to any inner planet aspects to Pluto.

One of the big contacts happening this cycle is Jupiter trine Pluto on June 2nd.   This is not a rare aspect but at the same time it does not come up that often.  The last time was summer of 2016.    Jupiter is a glorious, dynamic planet with a huge gravitational pull.   Pluto is transformative, it is extreme and prefers an all or nothing approach.  The trine is of course a beneficial aspect.   There will be opportunities around effective communication.   Curiosity is important.  Sharing knowledge that is current and not stale from another long dead POV.  Going deep on learning.   Diversifying experiences and pushing the intellect.   Leaning into; new technology, new groups of people, finding the like-minded, trying a unique path, all which amplify evolution on some level.    We will feel this aspect most of June.

On May 13, Mercury leaves its shadow point from the previous retrograde.   Then on May 17, Mercury squares Pluto.   Mercury always likes to think it has the upper hand with any planet because it is so dang smart.  But Pluto holds its powder until it is ready to slay.   Watch the news to see who thinks they are the smarty pants and who shows them they are not.  Our own thoughts can be sinister and dark, perhaps about the subject of new technology or corrupt big money.

Then on May 22, the Sun in Gemini makes a harmonious trine with Pluto followed by Venus doing the same on May 25.    Novelty, finding fun conversationalists, being moved by celebrating the ordinary.  All of this speaks to Pluto who rewards with a new sense of power.   Also,  we all know the people who can travel thousands of miles and visit a wild exotic location but when they come back and tell their story, eyes go half mast, people start thinking about their to-do list.  Then there are others who go to the market down the street and come back and tell a story about someone they saw, and it is as a professional raconteur is relaying the anecdote.  Everyone is riveted.  This is the week we all find our inner Mark Twain.

Jupiter enters Gemini

May 25, 4:14pm PDT

The last time Jupiter was in Gemini was June 11, 2012 – June 25, 2013.

Gentleman and Gentleladies ---start your engines.   Jupiter is entering the fastest, busiest sign in the solar system.    Jupiter who is the biggest planet in the zodiac likes to bring expanse to a sign.  In Gemini we all super busy.  Our calendars will have more action than the last year while Jupiter was in Taurus.   Book clubs will grow.  Social Media will be awash in more than usual postings and will be in the news.   Will everything out on the world wide web be truthful.  Nope.  But there could be a helluva lot more people with their magnifying glasses out determining what is fake and what is real.     Jupiter in Gemini is also how we learn to adapt.   We learn the value of pivoting on a dime.   We will be doing it a lot this Jupiter in Gemini year.    Our intellect will be lit up.   We figure out how to uplift and zhuz our conversation skills.  We look for ways to freshen up stuff, we have little patience for anything boring.   While we will be seeking fresh and new and interesting we need to take care that we are not hideously superficial.     Shallowness can be a problem and we will all need to avoid the gossip.  If we can.   There will also be lots of short trips!   Even for those people who are not inclined to travel they will be figuring out a way to get there, wherever there is.   Much joy can come from Jupiter’s transit in Gemini.  For additional insights, think back to 2012-2013 and consider what came up for you that speaks to Jupiter in Gemini.   There may be some echos from that period to this year.

In conclusion, this lovely Taurus new moon and lunar month is ripe with opportunities that come from tapping joy, art, love and beauty.   While the chart does not have a lot of harsh aspects, if Taurus’ not so nice side pops up –which is greediness, stubborn rigidity and over the top bossiness, consider taking a breath, asking yourself if that response is really the most pragmatic and if it is not, dump it.  If it is, then go for it but make sure it does not get in the way of the joy of the month.

The 8 phases

May 7, 2024

8:21pm PDT

18 Taurus 02

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more results.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map, but you should put out your Intent.

This focus:    How do I find solidity?   Where do I need to build something from the ground up?   Where do I get comfort?  How do I relax?   Where do I need to slow down?   How can slowing down and doing one thing at a time serve me?   Where am I investing my energy?

Special note:

5/6: Sun sextile Saturn.   Practical application of a system strengthens things that are weak.     When faith is tapped, resources grow.

Crescent Moon Phase

May 11, 2024

7:41am PDT

Crescent:  We will receive information, we will research a bit more, perhaps get feedback on stuff that we planted on new.  Perhaps get some information that will help down the road on a seed we planted a while ago.  We can collect some data now.  Even if you think you are not getting information, stop, and re-look at everything.  Who called you?  Even the silliest things when they come up during Crescent are note worthy.  A parking ticket.  An argument with a spouse?  A refund check from the phone company?  All of it needs to be considered a message from the universe.  How can this information help you?

Focus on: What are you learning about your feelings?   What are you learning about your childhood?  What are you learning about your family?   How does everything you are learning connect to your stability now?  How does everything inform your ability to be grounded?

Special Focus

5/13: Sun conjunct Uranus.  Dynamic energy has practical results.   There is a electric energy that can be revolutionary when slowing down to experience it.

5/13: Venus sextile Saturn.  Love and values are amplified by faith and systems that tap spirituality.

6/2: Jupiter Trine Pluto (see above)

First Quarter Moon

May 15, 2024

4:47am PDT

First quarter: We do more actions based on the information that we just received.  Or we feel our instincts guide us on something.  We pursue again.  We make another call, or we see someone. We mail something.  We stir the pot again.  This can be a time when we realize that the goals, we planted on new need more action from us, perhaps actions that involve breaking away.   Are there people who say they have our best interest in heart but fear us growing away from them?  Maybe we need to get help from others not the usual suspects.  Some independence may need to be exerted.

Focus on:   What actions can you take that are sparked by your creativity, bravery, and love?  And how do they speak to amplifying your practical, simplified, and solid parts of your life?

Special Note

5/15 : Mercury enter Taurus.  Three weeks of solid, slower thinking.

5/17:  Mercury square Pluto (see above)

5/18: Venus conjunct Uranus.  Love and creativity and values get an electric bolt of energy.   Is something new promising?   Even if it is weird.

5/18: Sun conjunct Jupiter.    Big money, big resources.  Big ideas.  Big theories.   Do they have merit?  And if they do, can you move on them?

Gibbous Moon

May19, 2024

7:54am PDT

Gibbous:

We refine our information.  We pick and choose, we discriminate, and we organize to be ‘Virgo’ like.  We sort through details.  Have we missed something?  How are we sifting through the information?  Go back and make sure something hasn’t been neglected.  Refine our actions.

Focus on:  What refining are you doing to your relationship?   What have you been neglecting in your relationships?  What are you tidying up with partners?

Special focus

5/19: Sun sextile Neptune.  Joy and pleasure come with a connection to faith.   How is our metaphysical and spiritual world important to our pragmatic reality?

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually, emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us. There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?

Focus on  How are you broadening your world?  How are you being influenced by that which is foreign?  What are you travel goals?   How will they bring more solidity in your life?

Disseminating

May 26, 2024

10:44 pm PDT

Disseminating: Share information; find a teacher or someone who has more knowledge. Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information.

Focus on:   How are you sharing your leaderships skills?  How are you sharing your business acumen?   How is your inner CEO helpful to others?   What are you sharing that speaks to systems?

Special focus:

5/27: Mercury sextile Saturn.  Thinking that is complementary to support resources.  Faith and communication are the pragmatic path.

The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. God, grant me the Serenity
to accept the things
I cannot change Courage to change the
things I can, and the
Wisdom to know the difference.
